    Prior to joining EFG Hermes in 2016, Walid Hassouna was General Manager and Head of Structured Finance and Investment Banking at Bank Audi, where he closed structured and project finance transactions in excess of USD 15 billion over a seventeen-year banking career that began at Misr International Bank. He also structured and executed several award-winning deals, in project finance and M&A within Egypt and GCC, in addition to several investment banking transactions. He has also been the Head of structured finance and syndication in Banque Misr where he successfully managed to top the league table of the MENA region in syndicated loans.

    Walid is a Cairo-University B.B.A holder, where he graduated with the highest honors. He also holds an MBA from J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University as well as Islamic Finance Qualification from CISI- UK.

    Prior to joining Abraaj, Walid was a director with Riyada Ventures (A boutique regional investment bank), and previously Managing Director of Technology Development Fund (TDF, Egypt’s 1st VC fund). He started his career with AT&T in Kuwait and moved on to manage and establish several technology companies in France and the US.

    Walid served, and continues to serve, as a director on the boards of local and regional companies. He’s an Independent Director and head of the Audit Committee of Alexandria New Medical Center (Egypt’s largest independent hospital – AMES.EGX). He previously served on the boards of Egypt’s largest hospital group (CHG; CLHO.EGX) as well as Egypt’s largest education group CIRA (CIRA.EGX) ahead of its listing. 

    Walid is actively engaged with education and entrepreneurship initiatives in Egypt.   • Nada is a co-founder of an educational startup that started in Egypt and expanded to Dubai and Jordan. After working on her own startup, she decided to work for a technology incubator under the Ministry of ICT in Egypt to share some of her entrepreneurial experiences. She also supported the launch of Athar Accelerator in Upper Egypt alongside VFlock, GIZ, and Cloud and was one of the startup mentors and trainers. Ahmad acquired his experience in the field by providing and implementing innovative project platforms at IDEAS Beirut as the Technology Lead. His projects include research tackling several theories related to Machine Learning, Network Security, and Smart cities. His successful projects also included building an enhanced Artificial Intelligence model to detect and prevent suicide in Arabic. With an eagerness to pass his knowledge to future generations, Ahmad developed his career path to becoming an instructor in the department of Computer Science at the American University of Science and Technology, as well as Balamand University, where he teaches courses in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Python, IoT, and web development. As such, Ahmad is passionate about mentoring students who desire to grow within the tech industry.
